RSS Notification Service

The GRN now offers RSS feeds for updates to the databases listed below. The RSS feeds automatically update as content is added to the site, alerting you to the latest news.

What is RSS?

RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication. It's an XML file that can be read by special feed reading software or a web service you can use from your web browser. Put the address of our RSS feed into your reader, and it will display the latest records added to one or more of our databases. It's quicker than revisiting a site several times a day to check for updates, as feed readers scan for updates and display them for you.

How to use RSS feeds

In general, the first thing you need is something called a news reader. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. All allow you to display and subscribe to the RSS feeds you want.

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality which automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their websites.

To view our RSS feeds you need software called a feed reader or aggregator. Feed readers you could try include:

Windows users:

Newz Crawler
FeedDemon
Awasu

Mac OS X users:

Newsfire
NetNewsWire

Web-based readers:

Bloglines
My Yahoo!
NewsGator

Once you have installed a feed reader you can add the GRN RSS feed(s) by clicking on the link above. Set up the news feed by either dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.
